Animation | storyboarding | illustration
overview
Katha Lab schools is an NGO that works for the education of underprivileged kids using storytelling pedagogy. This project was a collaboration of my college IIAD, Katha lab schools & Monami foundation (who employ underprivileged women to make crochet toys).
My responsibilities:
It was to lead the visual development of the story. It included brainstorming various ways of visual representation that the TG would find intriguing, storyboarding, illustrating the puppets, and then video editing and animation.
Client: Katha Lab school & Monami foundation
Organization type: NGO
Where: New Delhi
Aim: To create an engaging visual narrative for a story provided by Katha. It should excite and help teach young children, who are in process of learning to read or write.
Target group: 5- 10 year-olds.
Problem statement
How can I make a visual narrative more relatable for a 5-10-year-old such that it influences him/her to imbibe the lessons being taught in a fun way?
process
Ideation
A story had been provided with illustrations that the kids in the school read. I had to only come up with ways of visual representation that would engage the TG.
So traditional Indian ways of storytelling were sought to understand mediums, style, and their impact.
Look and feel
It was decided to take the existing illustration style of the story forward since it will establish recall with the students.
2D Puppets with 3D rendering style in stop motion was decided as a medium. Accordingly, our characters, set, and props were made. The film was shot in the open daylight to show the passing of a single day as in the story.
Storyboarding
Voice over was done by a 6-year-old. With sound & video editing, some effects, and animation this is the storyboard of what we aimed to make as a group.
Thank you for watching and meeting with me!
